My Teaching Philosophy

Making the classroom a place for students to feel safe and to experiment, to learn, and to grow is of paramount importance as a future counselor educator. Milan-Nichols and Bridges (2019) noted that perfecting the teaching of multicultural counseling can only lead to better counselors as a product. All students should feel like they can be vulnerable and they can share openly with their peers and their instructors if we are to prepare individuals who can demonstrate that same sort of unconditional, positive regard for their clients when they are practicing counselors. This sort of classroom is the type I encourage and any assignments or assessments I choose will be reflective of the rich diversity and unique makeup of each group of students I teach.

In 2022, I completed year-long counseling internship at Thrive Counseling and Consulting, where I provided counseling services for teens and adults. My areas of particular interest are postpartum anxiety and depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder.
